Frequently asked questions

How do I add a friend?

Open the Profile tab and tap Add friend. You can:

  • Search by name or email — your friend must already have an account.
  • Share your invite link via Messages, WhatsApp, or any app — your friend installs Penlo and you'll auto-connect.
  • Scan each other's QR code from Settings → My QR code.

Once they accept, you'll see each other on the map.

Why is my friend's location not updating?

A few possibilities:

  • They paused sharing — their pin will show their last known location with a clock icon.
  • They turned on Ghost Mode — their pin freezes at the spot where Ghost was enabled and shows a moon icon.
  • They denied location permission for Penlo on their device, or have low battery / battery-saver active, which can throttle GPS updates.
  • They're offline — no internet connection means no fresh updates.

Pull-to-refresh on the map (drag down) to force a re-sync.

What is Ghost Mode?

Ghost Mode lets you stop broadcasting your live location without unfriending anyone.

  • Global Ghost Mode (Settings → Privacy → Ghost Mode) freezes your pin for everyone.
  • Per-friend Ghost Mode (long-press a friend on the map, or open their profile menu) freezes your pin for just that friend.

Your friends still see your last known location with a moon icon, so they know you're not just offline. Turn Ghost Mode off any time to resume live sharing.

How do trails work?

Trails show where you've been over the past 7 days. Tap your own avatar in the carousel to reveal your trail; tap a friend's avatar to view theirs (if they've granted you access).

Older breadcrumbs auto-delete after 7 days. You can hide your trails entirely from Settings → Privacy → Record my trails.

What is a Moment?

A Moment is a quick photo + caption you share with friends, similar to a story. Moments stay visible for 24 hours and then disappear from the friends feed (you can still see your own from the Profile archive).

To post: tap the camera icon in the top bar, snap a photo, add an optional caption, and post.

How do I delete a chat or a message?
  • Delete one message: long-press the message bubble and choose Delete. Both you and your friend stop seeing it.
  • Delete the entire chat: open the chat, tap the ⋯ icon in the header, and choose Delete chat. This wipes the conversation for both sides.

Deleted messages cannot be recovered.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings → Account → Delete account. We'll ask you to confirm. Deleting removes:

  • Your profile, avatar, and email
  • Your location history, trails, and Places
  • Your Moments and chat messages
  • All friend connections

Deletion is permanent. We complete it within 30 days, after which your data is gone from our servers.

What does Penlo PRO include?

PRO unlocks ad-free usage and a few quality-of-life perks (extended trail history, priority support). You can subscribe from Settings → Become PRO. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled in your App Store / Play Store account at least 24 hours before renewal.

How do I cancel my subscription?

iOS: Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → Zenly Penlo → Cancel.

Android: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Zenly Penlo → Cancel.

Cancelling stops the next renewal — you keep PRO until the current period ends.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@techsmart.bio with:

  • What you were doing when it happened
  • What you expected vs what actually happened
  • Your device model and OS version (e.g. iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 17.4)
  • App version (Settings → About)
  • Screenshots if relevant

We read every report.

Is my data private?

Yes — your location is shared only with the friends you've explicitly accepted, and is encrypted in transit. We don't sell your data and don't show ads from third-party trackers in PRO. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.
